Onderzoek
Emeritus gewoon hoogleraar binnen de Vakgroep Talen en Culturen van het Nabije Oosten en Noord Afrika (Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte) sedert 1991. Gepromoveerd in 1981 op een teksuitgave van Oudbabylonische spijkerschriftteksten.
Coördinator van het netwerk InterUniversitaire AttractiePolen (IUAP): "The Land of Sumer and Akkad: reconstruction of its environment and history" , een samenwerkingsverband tussen de Universiteiten Gent, Leuven en Luik en het Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen.
Specialiteit: Assyriologie en geschiedenis van het Oude Nabije Oosten.
Research topics: socio-economische geschiedenis van de Oudbabylonische periode, landschapsreconstructie.
