Activities

Yasser Daoudi graduated in 2005 at Ghent University as Master in Oriental Languages and Cultures. His master thesis was entitled “Mongol Eurasia up to and including the reign of Möngke Khān (1251-59); the fall of Baghdad in 1258 and the establishment of the Ilkhanate”. In his thesis he reconstruates in essence the Mongol history from the existence of the Mongols as a nomad tribe in the Eurasian steppes, until the death of Möngke Khān in 1259, the third major successor of  Činggis Khān. After discussing the reign of  Möngke, attention is focused on the expedition of Hülegü Khān to Baghdad, being one of two major expeditions set up by Möngke before he died. After the fall of Bghdad in 1258, Hülegü established the Ilkhanate in Persia and Iraq. A general survey of the government of the different Ilkhans is being given. The findings from the used sources are collated with a modern Arabic view on the events, namely that of the Iraqi academic Abd al-Amir Al-Rufaiy.

After finishing his studies in Ghent, Yasser further specialized in Arabic at the Dutch-Flemish Institute in Cairo (2005-2006).

In 2007 graduated as  Master in International Relations and Diplomacy at Antwerp University, with a dissertation on Jamal Abd al-Nasir’s foreign policy.
